The two day 2nd International Conference on Materials Science and Nanotechnology 2018, MSNANO-18, was organized by the department of Physics Government College University Faisalabad on 19-20 February, 2018. The worthy Vice Chancellor Government College University Faisalabad Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali (T.I) graced the occasions as the Chief Guest during the inaugural session. Dean faculty of Physical Sciences/Chairman Department of Physics Professor Dr. Nasir Amin welcomed all the learned invited speakers from United Kingdom, Sweden, Belgium, China, United States of America, South Korea, Qatar and Pakistan who joined MSNANO-18 for sharing their research work at the forefront of Materials science and Nanotechnology during this conference. He thanked the worthy vice chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ali (T.I) for his constant support and encouragement which was necessary for coping with the increasing requirements of the Department of Physics to peruse and conduct research activities at the frontiers of materials science and nanotechnology. He also acknowledged the financial support of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for organizing this conference. During the inaugural session a plenary talk was delivered by Professor Dr. J. S. Kim from University of Loughborough (UK) which focused on highlighting the challenges and development of materials used in the Solid Oxide Fuels Cells Technology. During his remarks, Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali (T.I) stressed that scientific activities like the MSNANO are not only vital for making emerging technologies viable, they are also useful in motivating and training our youth to understand the philosophy of scientific research. The conference was a huge success since more than 800 students, faculty members and researchers from around 40 Universities and research institutions of Pakistan participated in MSNANO-18. During the 2 days program of the MSNANO-18 more than 50 oral presentations were delivered in three parallel sessions by both local and international speakers. The conference also featured a competitive poster presentation session and a cultural festival on the eve of 19th February, 2018. The MSNANO-18 conference was concluded on the 20th February, 2018. Three plenary talks on the state-of-the-art experimental and theoretical techniques for materials sciences and the search and realization of certain functionalities in nano-sized materials were delivered by Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal (COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad), Dr. Michael Sluydts (Ghent University, Beligum) and Dr. Fang Yang (Chinese Academy of Sciences, China) on the second day of MSNANO-18. During the concluding ceremony, worthy Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali (T.I) appreciated the efforts of the organizing team of MSNANO-18 for holding a successful and productive event. He presented shields and certificates to the foreign and local speakers and also distributed cash prizes to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders of the poster competition. By bringing together a mix of scientific community working in a large spectrum of materials science and nanotechnology, MSNANO-18 provided a valuable forum for both researchers and students to exchange views and find future collaborations. The overwhelming response from both foreign and national participants of MSNANO-18 and its success is testament to the efforts of the MSNANO team for bringing the quality of physics education and research at the Department of Physics Government College University Faisalabad at par with global standards.
