Mission
To the advancement of highest level of theoretical and practical knowledge of chemistry, the department pledges to train Chemists capable of making significant contribution in the areas of medicine, pharmacy, petroleum and related fields.
Introduction
Twentyth century is the era of modern chemistry. Between 1901 to 2019, 111 times Nobel Prize in chemistry has been awarded to 183 Nobel Laureates. Today chemistry is contributing to all walks of life. The researchers of chemistry have strong portfolio over past few decades contributing to vast range of topics from robotic cars to oil spills. The department of chemistry started with the establishment of the Government College University Faisalabad in 2002. It is situated in the new campus in a completely purposeful building decorated with the modern lecture rooms and theaters as well as fully furnishes general labs for all the specializations offered like Organic, Inorganic, Analytical and Physical Chemistry. The department is hosting more than 900 students of graduation, master, M.Phil. and Ph.D. The department is The curriculum of all offered degree is in coherence to the guidelines of Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. New courses are introduced time to time in order to acquaint our student with the recent developments in the subject. The major focus of the department is preparing our students to meet the requirements of international and colonial expectations. Our alumni are serving around the Pakistan and across the globe. Our graduates are catering the requirements of industry, public and private research organization and as entrepreneurs.
The research activities are also flourishing in the department with the large number of ongoing research projects funded by the national and international funding agencies. There are specialized research labs for synthesis, characterizations, material sciences, drug and therapeutic discoveries, dyes and fabricating, nanomaterials and polymer research, waste water treatment, solution chemistry and computational chemistry. All these labs are publishing in the esteemed peer review journals and have research collaborations around the globe. The research project are aimed to meet the global challenges and especially to the community challenges.
