GCUF, 8.2REEP Launch Initiatives for EV and Renewable Energy Testing

Government College University Faisalabad has renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 8.2 Renewable Energy Experts Pakistan (8.2REEP) to strengthen industry–academia collaboration in renewable energy, applied research, and workforce development. The MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam and CEO Engr. Omar Majid.

Engr. Majid said the renewed partnership builds on collaboration since December 2021, which has included industry-based internships, faculty consultancies, and postgraduate research, including two PhDs and one MS in Electrical Engineering. The updated MoU focuses on advanced, hi-tech skill development aligned with industry needs.

In parallel, GCUF, 8.2REEP, and PV Lab Pakistan are establishing a GCUF–PV Lab EV & Renewable Energy Testing Centre, aimed at serving Central Punjab as a hub for testing solar PV systems, batteries, inverters, and EV charging infrastructure, while supporting applied research and industrial services.

Prof. Dr. Rauf-I-Azam appreciated the industry support and highlighted the importance of such partnerships in producing job-ready graduates and promoting applied research.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Prof. Dr. Abdul Rauf Bhatti, Dean of Engineering and Technology, and Prof. Dr. Umair Arshad, Director of Industrial Linkages along with faculty of Engeenring and Technology.

The event concluded with a cheque distribution ceremony for industry-supported Final Year Design Projects (FYDPs). Four BS Electrical Engineering projects were funded by 8.2REEP and Paracha Soap & Chemical Industries (Pvt.) Ltd., and the cheques were awarded by the Vice Chancellor to the respective project supervisors.
