The global community must take notice of the grave human rights violations in Kashmir — Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam
On the occasion of Kashmir Black Day, the Directorate of Students Affairs, Government College University, Faisalabad, organized a Solidarity Walk for Kashmir, which was attended by a large number of teachers, students, and staff members. The walk was held to express solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, marking 78 years of India’s illegal occupation of the region.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor of Government College University, Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, while addressing the participants, said that the international community — particularly the United Nations and international human rights organizations — must immediately take notice of India’s grave and systematic human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and hold India accountable for these crimes. He emphasized the need for practical and effective measures to stop Indian state oppression and to ensure a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
The Vice Chancellor further stated that, in light of India’s recent aggressive behavior, Kashmir Black Day highlights the fact that sustainable peace and stability in South Asia depend on a fair and lasting resolution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
On the occasion, Director Students Affairs, Dr. Sheraz Arshad Malik, said that the entry of Indian forces into Srinagar on October 27, 1947, was a blatant violation of international law and the will of the Kashmiri people — a dark chapter in modern history.
He added that Kashmir Black Day is observed every year to renew the pledge that the people of Kashmir will continue their struggle for the right to self-determination. Despite decades of Indian oppression, the courage and spirit of resistance among the Kashmiri people remain unwavering.
Students from various faculties, along with teachers and university administration, participated in the walk and chanted slogans in support of the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
