GCUF Holds Seminar on Breastfeeding Awareness

The Department of Nutritional Sciences, Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF), organized an international seminar on breastfeeding awareness with the support of UNICEF. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Rauf-i-Azam, UNICEF representatives Nouman Ghani and Dr Najma Ayub, Punjab Ombudsperson for Women Dr Najma Afzal Khan, representatives of the Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Faisalabad, university Deans, directors faculty members attended the seminar, organized by focal person Prof. Dr Mahr-un-Nisa.

At this occasion Prof. Dr Rauf-i-Azam said breast milk was essential for a child’s healthy growth and development, urging mothers to exclusively breastfeed for the first six months and continue breastfeeding with appropriate complementary food for up to two years.

Dr Najma Afzal Khan said breastfeeding was an important public health issue requiring collective support from families, communities and institutions. The speakers highlighted the importance of early breastfeeding, colostrum and evidence-based awareness to dispel misconceptions about breastfeeding.
