Government College University Faisalabad Holds 10th International Seminar on Paleontology

Government College University Faisalabad organized the “10th International Seminar on Paleontology” at the Department of Zoology, bringing together renowned scholars, researchers, faculty members, and students to discuss recent developments in paleontological research and fossil studies.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, while addressing the participants, emphasized the significance of palaeontology and fossil studies in understanding the evolutionary history of living organisms. He said that fossils provide valuable evidence about ancient life, environmental changes, and the gradual evolution of species over millions of years. He added that research in palaeontology helps scientists better understand biodiversity, climate shifts, and the interconnected history of life on Earth.

The seminar was organized by the Department of Zoology. On the occasion, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Farhat Jabeen and Chairperson Department of Zoology Prof. Dr. Asma Ashraf briefed the audience about the objectives and importance of the seminar. The seminar featured distinguished scholars and researchers, including Prof. Dr. Muhammad Akhtar, Dr. Khizar Samiullah, and Prof. Dr. Gregoire Metais.

During their presentations, the speakers highlighted the role of fossils and palaeontology in tracing the historical footprints and evolutionary development of living organisms. They also discussed the zoogeographical distribution of organisms and explained how different land masses were once interconnected in geological history.

Students, researchers, and faculty members actively participated in the seminar and engaged in academic discussions with the guest speakers. The seminar proved highly informative, valuable, and fruitful for all participants.
