Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Visits Government College University Faisalabad, Addresses Participants of the Academic Council Meeting

Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, visited Government College University Faisalabad, where he attended a meeting of the Academic Council. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam warmly welcomed the distinguished guest.

During the visit, the Chairman HEC was given a detailed briefing on the university’s overall performance, ongoing academic and research projects, and future goals. While participating in the Academic Council meeting, Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar interacted with faculty members and discussed the future of higher education, research development, and educational reforms.

He stated that the youth of Pakistan possess immense potential, and Pakistani students studying at universities around the world are proving their competence and skills. He urged the government to increase the higher education budget and introduce comprehensive reforms so that Pakistan can compete with leading nations in the field of education. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar also mentioned that an online system has been introduced for students to pursue double degrees and obtain verified copies of their degrees. He added that a ban has been imposed on establishing sub-campuses at the tehsil level, and that Prime Minister scholarships are being increased.

On this occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam highlighted the university’s ongoing development projects, academic reforms, and research achievements. He noted that Government College University Faisalabad holds a prominent position between 601–800 in global rankings, while it ranks first in Punjab and second in Pakistan. Furthermore, 54 researchers from the university are included among the world’s top 2% scientists. The Vice Chancellor added that the university is taking significant steps to promote quality education, modern research, and industry-academia linkages. He reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthen the university in line with international standards to make students competitive at the global level.

At the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission appreciated the university’s academic and research efforts and assured full cooperation.
