The Department of Applied Chemistry organized a one-day symposium titled “Advances in Nanocatalysis and Marketing Innovations,” bringing together academicians, researchers, industry professionals, alumni, and students to discuss emerging scientific developments and their translation into market-oriented solutions.

The event was organized by Dr. Tahsin Gulzar and Convener Dr. Shumaila Kiran. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-I-Azam, the chief guest, emphasized student mentorship, applied research, entrepreneurship, and industry–academia collaboration. He also highlighted challenges facing higher education institutions, including declining admissions and global rankings, and called for innovative, research-driven strategies.

Dean Prof. Dr. Kaleem Khan Khosa appreciated the department’s efforts in promoting a strong research culture and producing skilled graduates aligned with industrial and societal needs.

The keynote address by Young Scientist Award recipient Dr. Awais Ahmed traced his academic journey from Applied Chemistry student to internationally recognized researcher, inspiring students toward research excellence. Distinguished alumnus Mr. Faisal Sharif of Gourmet Foods shared industry perspectives and stressed the importance of alumni–industry linkages.

Supported by SKIMS Pharmaceutics, the symposium concluded as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and industry engagement.
