Kitchen Gardening Is the Foundation of a Healthy Lifestyle, Say Experts

A one-day seminar and hands-on training workshop on kitchen gardening, titled “Kitchen Gardening: Green Homes, Healthy Lives,” was organized at the New Campus of Government College University Faisalabad under the auspices of the Directorate of Students Affairs and the Green Youth Movement Club. The objective of the seminar was to provide comprehensive awareness among youth regarding green homes, healthy nutrition, environmental protection, and modern scientific methods of urban gardening.

Addressing the inaugural session, Professor Dr. Sabir Hussain, Focal Person of the Green Youth Movement Club, and Dr. Nadeem Sohail, Director Students Affairs, stated that kitchen gardening not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also plays a vital role in reducing environmental pollution and achieving food self-sufficiency. They emphasized that youth should adopt vegetable cultivation at the household level and contribute to building a green and sustainable future.

During the technical session, experts delivered detailed lectures on various aspects of household and urban gardening. Dr. Muzammil Jahangir and Professor Dr. Adnan Younis from the University of Agriculture Faisalabad highlighted the scientific and practical requirements of kitchen gardening, discussing vegetable cultivation, soil preparation, proper use of fertilizers, and effective methods of disease control. They also shared modern and innovative techniques for achieving higher yields in limited spaces.

Later, Malik Mohsin Shehzad, Founder of Esprit International, Faisalabad, described aeroponics as the future of sustainable urban agriculture, stating that this method can play a key role in addressing food security challenges.

The seminar stressed that the use of sewage water for vegetable cultivation in urban areas is extremely harmful to human health, whereas kitchen gardening enables households to easily obtain safe, fresh, and organic food.

Participants showed keen interest in the practical training session on kitchen gardening and received hands-on training on precautionary measures and treatments from seed sowing to plant growth.
