International Symposium on the Importance of Soil Organic Carbon Held at Government College University Faisalabad

An International Symposium on “The Importance of Soil Organic Carbon” was held at the New Campus of Government College University Faisalabad, bringing together a large number of national and international environmental scientists, researchers, academicians, and students.

In his address, Vice Chancellor of GCUF, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, highlighted the crucial role of soil organic carbon in maintaining soil fertility, ecological balance, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. He emphasized that research on this vital subject is essential for achieving sustainable development goals.

Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam further stated that to prevent the devastation caused by recent floods, there is a dire need to formulate comprehensive national policies on climate change aimed at controlling soil erosion and riverbank degradation. He added that integrating scientific research into policy-making is imperative to minimize the adverse effects of environmental disasters.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Riaz, the Principal Organizer of the symposium, underscored the importance of international collaboration and scientific research to address global environmental challenges.

Chairman of the Department of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Dr. Sabir Hussain said that the objective of the symposium was to highlight the role of soil organic carbon, its conservation, and its significance in sustainable agricultural productivity.

Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Dr. Farhat Jabeen, remarked that maintaining the balance of soil organic carbon is vital for environmental sustainability and reducing the impacts of climate change.

The symposium featured keynote addresses and scientific discussions by experts from Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, France, Spain, Australia, and China, along with prominent environmental scientists from various Pakistani universities.

The event aimed to foster dialogue, collaboration, and research on soil conservation, sustainable development, and innovative approaches to mitigate climate challenges.
