GCUF Celebrates World Statistics Day 2025

The Department of Statistics, Government College University Faisalabad, under the headship of Prof. Dr. Faisal Maqbool Zahid, celebrated World Statistics Day 2025 with great enthusiasm. The day, observed globally and by the United Nations every five years, was marked by a one-day symposium organized by the department under this year’s UN theme for this year — “Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone.”

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Leading statisticians from across Pakistan and from several developed countries also joined the celebration through their video messages.

In his address, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam emphasized the pivotal role of statistics in education, research, and evidence-based decision-making. He urged statisticians to produce high-quality research and analyses that contribute to effective national policies.

Prof. Dr. Faisal Maqbool Zahid, Chairperson of the Department of Statistics, highlighted the need to leverage modern technologies and advanced software tools to analyze large datasets efficiently in today’s data-driven era. The Chief Statistical Officer of PBS elaborated on the Bureau’s initiatives in ensuring data quality and its critical role in national planning and policy formulation.

The event brought together a wide range of participants, including faculty members, students from various universities and colleges, and a delegation from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) led by the Chief Statistical Officer.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony and an awareness walk led by the Vice Chancellor to promote the importance of Statistics and commemorate the day.
