GCUF Hosts One-Day Seminar on Nuclear and Radiation Safety in Pakistan

The Department of Physics, Government College University Faisalabad, organized a one-day seminar on Nuclear and Radiation Safety in Pakistan to raise awareness about responsible practices in handling nuclear instruments and radiation sources. The event brought together scientists, faculty members, researchers, and students to discuss national safety protocols and the importance of regulatory compliance in nuclear research and applications.
The seminar commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Ijaz Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Department of Physics, who welcomed the distinguished guests and participants. In his address, Dr. Khan elaborated on radiation safety measures, exposure guidelines, and the ethical responsibility associated with working in environments where radiation sources are used. He emphasized that awareness and strict adherence to safety protocols are essential to protect both personnel and the environment.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, for his constant encouragement, guidance, and institutional support, which made the event possible.
The formal session featured a series of highly informative presentations by experts from national regulatory and academic institutions. Distinguished speakers included Mr. Rana Nadeem and Mr. Amir Mahmood from the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), Dr. Taqmeem Hussain from GCUF, and Dr. Muhammad Fakhar-e-Alam. The speakers discussed a wide range of topics including Pakistan’s nuclear safety regulatory framework, radiation protection protocols, the role of PNRA in ensuring compliance with international standards, and the need for sustained education and training in radiation safety.
In the concluding session, Senior Professor Dr. Muhammad Sharif appreciated the initiative taken by the Department of Physics and lauded the efforts of the organizers for arranging a seminar of such academic and practical importance. He encouraged the students and early-career researchers to follow best practices in scientific work and to uphold integrity, safety, and responsibility in all research endeavors.
The seminar drew wide participation from faculty members, researchers, and students, and was highly commended for its contribution to promoting knowledge and awareness about nuclear and radiation safety.
