A delegation comprising vice chancellors, rectors and faculty members from universities in Gaza, Palestine, visited Government College University Faisalabad

On the arrival of the Palestinian Vice Chancellors, the Vice Chancellor of Government College University Faisalabad, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, along with faculty members, administrative officers, and students, gave them a warm and enthusiastic welcome.

It was a historic occasion for Government College University Faisalabad as a high-level eight-member delegation comprising vice chancellors, presidents, and rectors from leading universities of Gaza, Palestine, visited the university’s New Campus on Jhang Road on Monday, October 20, 2025.

To pay tribute to the brave people of Gaza for their courage and struggle for freedom, the delegation was presented with a Guard of Honour.

The delegation’s visit was organized under the umbrella of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) subsidiary, COMSTECH, with the objective of enhancing academic and research collaboration between Palestinian and Pakistani institutions. On this occasion, Mr. Muhammad Murtaza Noor, the COMSTECH Coordinator/Focal Person, also accompanied the delegation from Islamabad.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the rehabilitation of educational institutions in Gaza following recent devastation, explore educational reforms, and establish sustainable academic and research linkages between the two countries for the promotion of scientific innovation and higher education.

The distinguished guests from Gaza were given a detailed briefing on various academic and research departments of Government College University Faisalabad, ongoing international projects, the university’s global ranking, and recent academic advancements.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam stated that the people of Palestine and Gaza are passing through one of the most difficult and testing phases of history. Despite immense challenges and destruction, the universities, teachers, and students there have kept the torch of knowledge burning. We salute their resilience, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment.

He further mentioned that the university has already announced special scholarships for Palestinian students to ensure the continuity of their education without interruption. Moreover, additional scholarship opportunities will be offered in the future for Palestinian students.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their commitment to initiate joint academic and research projects in various fields, particularly Information Technology, Medicine, Biological, Social, and Natural Sciences. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed to provide educational support and facilities to Palestinian universities.

The recent visit of the Palestinian delegation to Government College University Faisalabad will not only strengthen academic and cultural ties between Pakistan and Palestine but will also open new horizons for higher education and research across the Muslim world under OIC–COMSTECH collaboration.
