GCUF Holds 31st Academic Council Meeting; Approves Key Academic and Administrative Decisions

The 31st meeting of the Academic Council of Government College University Faisalabad was held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam. The meeting was attended by Deans, Directors, Professors, and other members of the Academic Council.
During the session, the council deliberated on several important academic and administrative matters and approved a number of significant decisions aimed at improving the overall educational and institutional framework of the university.
The Council approved the establishment of two departments under the Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Languages, namely the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies and the Department of Oriental Languages, which will offer academic programmes in Urdu, Punjabi, and Persian. Under this decision, the previous status of the College of Oriental Languages has been desolved.
Furthermore, the Council approved a proposal to provide free education to the children of retired and contractual employees of the university.
The council granted approval for new degree programmes — PhD in Information Technology and MS in Data Science — subject to the issuance of NOCs by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Minutes of various Boards of faculties were also endorsed, ensuring regular monitoring of curriculum development and academic processes.
To promote co-curricular engagement and enhance hostel administration, the rules and regulations for the Hall Council were formally approved.
Additionally, the Council gave consent to initiate Associate Degree Programmes under the semester system in affiliated colleges of GCUF.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Rauf-i-Azam said that the university’s mission is not merely to award degrees but to nurture students who are intellectually strong, morally sound, and professionally competent. The decisions taken in the Academic Council reflect our continued commitment to quality, innovation, and academic excellence.
He further emphasized that GCUF’s policies are centred on student welfare, faculty development, and research advancement, reaffirming the university’s resolve to maintain its standing among the country’s leading higher education institutions.
