The recent workshop on academic journals was organized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) with support from the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC). Dr. Tanvir Shahzad, Director ORIC, played an instrumental role in supporting the event and ensuring its effective execution. Through the ORIC platform, Dr. Tanvir Shahzad has been actively working to enhance research quality, improve editorial practices, and promote academic integrity. This workshop was a significant step in addressing these crucial issues. The keynote speaker of the workshop was Prof. Dr. Athar Azim Khan, who opened the session with insightful remarks on the importance of quality academic publishing. Several journal editors participated in the event. A major part of the discussion focused on the challenges faced by academic journals, including maintaining publication quality, ensuring timely peer reviews, the lack of trained reviewers, financial constraints, plagiarism concerns, and difficulties in achieving international indexing and recognition. The editors collectively emphasized the need for capacity building, policy support, and a collaborative academic environment to overcome these challenges. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i- Azam, Vice Chancellor of Government College University, Faisalabad, shared valuable insights on improving journal standards, strengthening institutional research capacity, and fostering a strong research culture in universities.
