United Against Diabetes: Strategies for a Healthier Pakistan

It is alarming that Pakistan has risen from tenth to fourth in the world in diabetes. As many as 30 million people are suffering from diabetics, accounting 19 percent of the population. That demand effective measures to cope with the massive outbreak, It was stated by speakers while addressing awareness walk and seminar arranged by Department of Public Health, GCUF.
Chairing the session, Vice Chancellor Government College University Faisalabad Dr. Rauf-I-Azam said that diabetic patients need to maintain healthy lifestyle, and ensure physical exercise on a regular along with a balanced diet. He further said that diabetes needed constant medical care to avoid its complications.

Chief organizer Dr. Ali Siftain said that diabetes occurs when insulin is not produced in adequate quantities, due to which sugar starts accumulating in our blood.

Dean Medical Sciences Dr. Abid Rashid said that diabetes affects the eyes, kidneys and other human organs, as well as causing the risk of TB.

Dr. Ahmed Shehzad said that it is necessary to not only control the rate of diabetes in Pakistan, but also provide the latest facilities to eradicate this disease. At the end of the ceremony, honorary shields were also distributed among the participants.

Morover, a walk in this regard was led by Vice Chancellor Government College University Faisalabad, Professor Dr. Rauf-I-Azam. Dean Professor Dr. Abid Rasheed, Professor Dr. Faisal Bilal Lodhi, Dr. Badar Bashir, Dr. Ahmed Shahzad, President Lyallpur Diabetic Foundation, Chief Organizer Dr Ali siftain, in addition to a large number of university teachers and students were also present in walk.
