Trainings

Bio-Sensing and SERS

Bio-Sensing has become an emerging technology in the field of Nano science that helps the Industry (chemical, Pharma, Food) and medical science for the diagnosis and treatment purpose. Dr Andrea, University of St. Andrews shall provide hands on training on the fabrication procedures of Hybrid Plasmonic Platforms (HPP) by novel and cheap routes. There are different types of HPPs using gold, silver and copper nanostructure. Detection limit of HPP depends on the shape of nanostructures. Controlling the shape and uniformity during the preparation of HPP will be the focus of this training to enable the HPP to detect single molecule. Performance and recycling of HPP shall be taught during the training session. Demonstration of fabricated HPP for the detection of bacteria shall be performed using the Raman confocal microscopy. After the training, participants shall be able to fabricate the HPP in their lab and explore this vast and multidisciplinary field.

Thermoelectric Measurements

Renewable energy has gained more attraction with every passing day, where new emerging technologies are providing way to harness energy from every available source. Thermoelectricity has huge potential for harnessing the thermal energy using the Building Integrated Thermo devices. Prof. Dr. Bo-Cui, University of Waterloo, Canada shall provide a detailed hands on training session on the instrumentation of Thermoelectric setup. Training shall focus on thermoelectric materials, sample preparation, mounting of sample on the spring loaded assembly, measurement accuracy and temperature dependent measurements. Participants shall be trained on how to built a homemade thermo electric setup using local resource in a cheap way.

SEM Instrumentation

Scanning Electron Microscopy is one of the conventional and routine characterization tool that is needed in all fields of sciences where materials are involved whether biological or inorganic. However, imaging technique as seem simple relies on a number of parameters for example Stigmatism, gun alignment etc. Emcrafts is one the rising manufacturers of SEM, Dr J. B., CEO of Emcrafts shall train the participants on the hardware and instrumentation of SEM. Training includes the sample preparation for organic / inorganic / insulating materials / conducting materials/, trouble shooting the SEM, vacuum leaks, mounting and un-mounting of electron, change of filaments for electron beam, controlling the stigmatism during higher magnification, electron beam control at higher magnification by wobbling, Electron Gun alignment etc.
