The 3rd National Computational Science Conference (NCSC 2015) was organized at Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad. It was a joint effort by Pakistan Society for Computational Biology (PSCB), Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad and Government College University (GCUF), Faisalabad.
The organizing committee from GCUF mainly constituted of office bearers of Pakistan Society for Computational Biology (PSCB) that included Dr. Mahmood ur Rehman Ansari (General Secretary, PSCB), Dr. Asma Haque (President PSCB), Dr. Tahsin Gulzar (Vice President PSCB), Dr. Usman Ali Ashfaq (Media Secretary PSCB), Dr. M. Shareef Masoud (Secretary Finance PSCB), Dr. Muhammad Qasim and Dr. Farukh Azeem (Members Executive Council, PSCB) among others. The main organizers from Institute of Space Technology included Prof. Dr. Abid Ali Khan, Prof. Dr. Walayat Hussain and Prof. Dr. Ihtzaz Qamar who led a team of engineers and students.
The focus of the conference was to provide an effective forum for sharing relevant research advancement among academia and research community and providing guidance and educational tools to them. The event was also aimed at providing opportunities to students, teachers and researchers to interact with highly experienced and renowned scientists.
The conference attracted a galaxy of computational scientists from all over the country. Over 350 researchers participated in the conference. A total of 220 abstracts for presentations were received which included 115 abstracts for oral presentation and rest for poster presentation. More than 75 institutes of Pakistan participated in the conference. Nineteen eminent scientists of national and international repute were invited for plenary and keynote lectures including Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro (President ECO Science Foundation), Prof. Dr. Farzana Latif Ansari (Advisor PCST), Prof. Zabta Khan Shinwari, Dr. Altaf Kareem, Dr. Asif Mahmood Mughal, Prof. Dr. Hibil Shamsul Qamar, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hamid Zaman, Dr. Faisal Khan. They shared their recent research and experiences with the participants. The conference comprised 03 plenary sessions, 16 keynote lectures, 16 technical sessions and a poster session. Over 90 papers were presented during the three-day event. Eighty posters were also displayed in the poster session.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, Vice Chancellor GCUF graced the occasion with his presence in the opening ceremony of the event as Chief Guest while Engr. Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor IST was the Guest of Honour. The idea of the conference was very much appreciated by the honorable guests and participants. Prof. Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro (President ECO Science Foundation and Guest of Honor) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali urged the researchers to achieve excellence in computational skills. They also mentioned that researchers from different fields of science can collaborate with each other to resolve major issues. Mr. Musanif Shah, Member Defence Projects, KRL was the Chief Guest in closing ceremony of the conference. He appreciated the efforts of Pakistan Society for Computational Biology (PSCB) and the two other partners on successful event. The conference was ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Ihtzaz Qamar, Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad.
An MoU has also been drafted by both parties (GCUF and IST) which will be signed by head of institutions very soon.
