An educational institution plays a vital role in building up the character and personality of its students. It produces a generation of the students who have to shoulder the heavy responsibilities of the future. Founded in 1897 as a Municipal Middle School, Government College started its long and tiring journey of success more than a century ago. At that time it was housed in the present Government College for Women Karkhana Bazar, Faisalabad. It was upgraded to the level of the high school in September 1905. Hereafter, the Provincial government took over the management of this institution and changed its location in 1915, so it was moved into the present campus.
In May 1924, it attained the status of Intermediate College and in 1933 it was upgraded to Degree level. Post graduate disciplines were introduced in 1963 and Government of the Punjab declared the Government College, Faisalabad as an autonomous institution on, 1st July 1990.
The College was given the status of University on 23rd October 2002, by Lt. General ( R) Khalid Maqbool, the then Governor of the Punjab and the University Community College was established and shifted to its present premises in September 2003. In September 2009, it was upgraded and B.A, B.Com, B.I.T and B.Sc classes were launched. In January 2012, University Degree College was declared University Community College by the Syndicate, and various market driven programs based on local and regional community and industry needs were offered from the fall semester 2012.
Since its up-gradation, University Community College is performing extremely well in every field of educational prospectus right from personality shaping to highly recorded results. The institution is also committed to ensure an inspiring and congenial atmosphere to its students.
University Community College is re-launching Intermediate Program with new zeal and zest on massive demand of the people of Faisalabad. The institution aims at re-gaining its old traditions of character building of its students and prominently recording results. It is generally observed that the students who seek admission in colleges are not mature enough to cope with the upcoming problems at college level. As there is lack of coordination between the parents and the institution, the students get free space and they involve themselves in different activities which diversify their potential and they are derailed. Its outcome is that they forget their real aim and do not perform well at college. Keeping in view the above-mentioned facts, we are offering reformed and different educational system. We have established a system of coordination between parents and the institution through which parents/guardians will be informed of the weekly/monthly performance of students as well as their attendance through SMS, Online Parents Portal and telephone calls.
Highly qualified and experienced faculty members who are willing to work with full devotion and enthusiasm have been engaged to groom and polish the students. Scholarships and awards are available for talented students including full freeship for the students who fall under the defined criteria. Courses will be completed well in time. There will be revision session after the completion of courses and a test session in the last two months of academic period. Moreover, the college is also launching an online attendance system at Intermediate Level.
For smooth execution of scholarship programs, Government College University Authority has established, separate Students’ Financial Aid Office (SFAO) in University Community College in collaboration with Higher Education Commission, Islamabad. There are a number of scholarships available to assist students with their educational expenses on need and merit basis. Following scholarships are offered at this college:
HED Scholarship for the Students of Baluchistan and Fata, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) Scholarships, Killa Gift Scholarship, Internal Merit District Scholarship, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, MORA Scholarship, Karwan-e-Ilam Foundation and Talent Scholarship are also offered by Government College University, Faisalabad.
I ardently hope that re-launching of Intermediate Program by University Community College will prove a hallmark in the history of this institution. This will also go a long way in reviving the old traditions of Govt. College Faisalabad viz. excellent character building, personality development and intellectual promotion of its students.
No doubt, providing the conducive academic environment alongwith latest library facilities, fully equipped laboratories, furnished classrooms and opportunities for participation in co-curricular activities within an institution plays a vital role in shaping the character of young generation. University Community College is moving forward in this direction keeping in view the requirements of the rapid changing world.
I enthusiastically welcome all the prospective Intermediate students with the hope that they will leave no stone unturned to reach academic excellence and become responsible citizens of the country.
