Department of Zoology Organized an International Seminar and Workshop on Fish Research around Indus River was held on 15, 17 & 18 December at Government College University Faisalabad
These events were organised by Dr Farhat Jabeen Chairperson/ Associate Professor/ Leader of INSPIRE/SPEKE Projects and her colleagues at Zoology Department GCUF and Dr. Abdul Shakoor Chaudhry from the School of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development, Newcastle University, UK for their two projects. The ongoing projects include an International Strategic Partnership for Research and Education (INSPIRE) and Strategic Partnership Extension for Knowledge Exchange (SPEKE). The projects are funded by the British Council (BC) and Pakistan Higher Education Commission (HEC). The events were attended by around 200 delegates from different organisations including GCUF, the Punjab Fisheries Department and selected fish farmers and fishermen. The Vice Chancellor GCUF Professor Dr Muhammad Ali (TI) graced both the occasions as the Chief Guest. Director General Punjab Fisheries Dr. Muhammad Ayub, Deputy Director Zulfiqar Abdi alongside his team members and the progressive fish farmers including Dr. Faqir Mohammad and Kashif Bajwa delivered their research and farm based speeches. Mr. Mohammad Omar represented British Council Lahore by attending the second and third day of various activities. Dr Farhat Jabeen and Dr. Abdul Shakoor Chaudhry updated the audience about their fish and water related research as well as knowledge exchange activities at multiple sites in Faisalabad, Chashma, Esakhel and Mianwali. The events were concluded with the shield and certificate distribution to the speakers and the delegates by the Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Ali (TI).
