About Prof. Dr. Farhat Abbas

Prof. Dr. Farhat Abbas, a PhD in Agricultural Engineering / Environmental Engineering from Newcastle University, UK is well recognized for his expertise in planning and developing new programs in Engineering. He established Faculty of Engineering strengthened by the Departments of i) Electrical Engineering, ii) Environmental Sciences & Engineering, iii) Information Technology, iv) Computer Science, and v) Software Engineering. Previously. As an HEC recognized supervisor, he is supervising PhD and M.Phil theses. His area of interest is research climatology. He has authored research articles, book chapters, and research manuals.

He is a successful resource developer and manager. Recently, he headed a GCUF team to secure Rs. 732.794 million PC-1 approved from the Planning Commission of Pakistan through HEC for upgrading university academic and research facilities. Over the past 20 years, he has been involved in research, teaching, and administration. He has contributed to capacity building and management of new programs at national as well as international scales. His contributions toward the higher education do not only include mentoring students in Pakistan and in USA but also comprise technology transfer, formulation of management practices, and development of new degree programs. He has been contributing to the efforts of IUCN in developing curricula for environmental impact assessment (EIA) related courses of tertiary level institutions in Pakistan, National Impact Assessment Programs for Improving review mechanism of EIA reports and Introducing and Accreditation System for EIA consultants in Pakistan. He has led teams of multidisciplinary background to achieve goals involving multidimensional tasks. He is a Chief-Minister Punjab nominated member of Board of Directors of the Faisalabad Solid Waste Management Company where he interacts with Government Officials and Member Parliaments. His personal experience of living with one of the most deprived and marginalized communities in Pakistan and working with higher education institutes have given him chances to understand development issues both at grassroots and higher levels. His experience includes achieving targets in USDA, US-EPA, and HEC funded projects. He possesses a transparent and neutral personality which is he is on various committees of this university including those for plagiarism & research ethics, purchase & inspection, faculty scrutiny & evaluation, community development, and others.
