Distribution of Productivity Allowance and PCT Award Certificates in GC University Faisalabad

The Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) of the Government College University Faisalabad arranged a ceremony to celebrate achievements of Government College University researchers who published their research findings in impact factor journals during 2011. According to data released by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, the Government College University researchers published 131 peer-reviewed research papers in impact factor journals during 2011. Additionally, sixteen researchers of Government College University Faisalabad were honored with Award Certificates from Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST) during this event.

The event was chaired by Dr. Zakir Hussain, the Vice Chancellor of Government College University Faisalabad. Director ORIC Government College University Faisalabad, Dr. Farhat Abbas convened the meeting and said, “the recognized researchers did not only improve their CVs but also helped our university gaining higher rank. Currently, the Government College University Faisalabad stands 6th in HEC ranking for large general universities.

Director ORIC claimed that in the recent past, the Government College University Faisalabad has made admirable progress at many fronts including research and innovations. Systems have been computerized, constructions have been resumed, laboratories have been equipped and research culture has been created at the University.

The Vice Chancellor Government College University Faisalabad distributed Productivity Allowance Cheques and PCST Award Certificates among the recognized researchers. He named it Eidi (Eid Gifts) from him to the productive researchers of Government College University Faisalabad. In his speech, he elaborated the importance of research in university environments. The meeting hall was full of cheers and applause when the Vice Chancellor mentioned that Government College University is likely to win a mega grant of over Rs. 800 million from Planning Commission of Pakistan to further equip its research labs. He congratulated the recognized researchers and proudly declared that 20% raise in salaries of Government College University employees has been given in these tough times when many other institutes are finding it hard to fulfill 2012 budget vows of the Government of Pakistan. He mentioned that Government College University is being internationalized as the University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with New Mexico State University (NMSU) of USA. He further added that one of our faculty members from Arabic Department is going on sabbatical leave to teach Arabic at NMSU and lecturers from our university are going for PhD at NMSU on basis of In-State tuition fee. He pointed out that research collaboration between the two institutes is going to be finalized in few weeks. Researcher from the Department of Environmental Sciences of Government College University have submitted a collaborated research proposal on biofuel production from algae to NMSU, which is currently running the third largest experiment on bioenergy production from algae in USA. He also updated the audience about construction and development work at new campus site of Government College University at Jhang Road, Faisalabad. He informed the audience that sports facilities have been constructed and a boundary wall is under way at the new campus site.

Acting Dean Faculty of Science and Technology (Prof. Dr. Naureen Aziz Qureshi, Registrar (Mr. Muhammad Ayub), Director Planning and Development (Dr. Haq Nawaz), Director QEC (DR. Zubair Siddiqi), Advisor Examinations (Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Bukhari), faculty member of Government College University, and staff from ORIC-GCUF were present at the moment.
