3rd Symposium on “Advancements in Biotechnology (Dec 20-23, 2016)
Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology organized 3rd Symposium on “Advancements in Biotechnology on Dec 20 – Dec 23, 2016. Eminent speakers were invited for delivering expert talks covering all the major areas of biotechnology and bioinformatics. The inaugural ceremony was held on Dec 20, 2016 in which worthy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali T.I graced the occasion as Chief Guest while Dr. Qaiser Mehmood (Associate Director NIBGE) was the Guest of Honour. Worthy Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology for regularly organizing such events. Dr. Asma Haque, Chairperson, Department of Bioinformatics & Biotechnology, said that the department has always been eager to organize different events including conferences, symposia and workshops so that students and faculty can enhance their knowledge and improve their skills. She said that such activities will be continued at the same pace in future as well. Dr. Khadim Hussain and Dr. Rizwan Javed (Principal Organizers) explained the purpose and need of the workshop.
After inaugural session, worthy Vice Chancellor visited Medical, Bioprocess and Agriculture biotechnology labs of the department along with Guest of Honour Dr. Qaiser Mehmood and Dean Faculty of Science & Technology, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zuber. They appreciated the faculty that the labs are well equipped and very well maintained.
The Chief Guest of the concluding session was Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zuber, Dean, Faculty of Science & Technology. He appreciated the event and also admired the fact that many of the students of this department are pursuing higher studies in top universities of world like Harvard and MIT, as informed by Dr. Waseem Haider (CIIT, Islamabad).
Keynote speakers of this event included Dr. Shahid Mansoor S.I (Director NIBGE), Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Rajoka S.I (GCUF), Dr. Shahid M. Baig S.I (NIBGE), Prof. Dr. Abdul Haque (TUF), Dr. Qaiser Mehmood (Associate Director NIBGE), Prof. Dr. Jaffar Jaskani (UAF) and Dr. Muneer Ahmad Anwar (NIBGE). Other speakers included Dr. Shah Jahan (UHS), Dr. Waseem Haider (COMSATS), Dr. Imran Amin (NIBGE), Dr. Murtaza Hasan (IUB) and Dr. M. Tariq Khan (NIBGE).
